Was 12-12-12 Significant? What about 12-21-12?

The last of the unusual dates that marked the beginning years of the 21st century has peacefully passed. From 01-01-01 to 12-12-12, these dates have elicited fervor for weddings, gamblers, and prognosticators and have sparked events and imaginations all over the world. There have been charity events, wild rock concerts, vigils and worldwide prayer efforts. So, from a Christian point of view, did these dates have any signifigance that we should pay attention to?

To gain a Biblical God centered answer, we first need to look at all theses dates from the perspective that they are on the Grecian calendar, not the Hebrew calendar. Our Lord set a 12 month calendar thousands of years ago upon which He identified specific dates and times (moeds in Hebrew) that are important to Him. These are outlined clearly in the book of Leviticus with observance of Passover, Feast of Trumpets, Yom Kippur, and Feast of Tabernacles forever for all generations declared. According to the Hebrew calendar we are in the first quarter of the year 5773. 12-12-12 was actually the 28th of Kislev, 5773 on His calendar. That date isn’t unusual in its configuration like 12-12-12. It’s a regular day, but it is a day the Lord has made and we are to rejoice and be glad in every day He gives us!

The same is true of 12-21-12 which is said to be the last day of the world on the Mayan calendar. It’s a regular day also. On the Hebrew calendar, it is the 8th of Tevet, 5773. As I consider this information and what the Bible has to say, I don’t believe a Mayan Calendar, a Grecian Calendar, a Chinese Caledar or any other calendar would or can trump our Lord’s Calendar! He has His dates, times and seasons and they happen according to His plans and ways. Additionally, according to the word of God, no one but the Father knows when the Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, will come for His Bride (see Matthew Chapter 24) and the world will not be ended but cleansed of evil, sickness and death; transformed to reflect His beauty and glory (see Revelations 21, Isaiah 65:17, 66:22). No one individually or collectively, not even an intriguing culture like the Mayans, can predict that glorious day.

With that said, our God knows us far better than we do and He will use unusual dates that have our attention and direct our curiosity and imagination toward HIM! Where can a person find information on numbers like 12 and 21? The Bible! His word is full of numerical symolism. So, as a Christian if a date is surfacing as something of great curiosity or signficance, we can simply turn to God’s word for answers. If we interpret 12-12-12 according to the Bible, the number twelve speaks of order, completeness, fullness and governmental perfection or rule. The only government that is complete, full and perfect is God’s government. So, 12 is the number that represents His government, His Kingdom.

Looking at all this from Father’s viewpoint on the number, we would, with 3-fold fullness of 12-12-12, turn away from the disorder, chaos, imperfection and incompleteness of our culture, stop depending on our worldly manmade government and turn completely to the fullness of His order, His complete and perfect government. It is time we embraced the truth, as sons and daughters of God, that we live in this world but we are not of this world (John 17:15-17). And, it is time that we unconditionally take our position in His government (His Kingdom) so that our culture can be redeemed and thousands, yes millions, of souls will be saved.

And what of 12-21-12? What scriptural signifigance has the number 21 in the Bible? Twenty represents being separated unto God or to reject Him. It is a number associated with being mature to fully know who He is and then accepting or rejecting Him and His ways. The number one represents the Beginning, God Himself. So 12-21-12 says in Bible numbers: God’s Kingdom – Choose God and His ways – God’s Kingdom. That is exactly what I intend to do every day of my life as best I know how. I will choose Him, His ways and His kingdom with all my mind, all my heart and all my strength! As 12-21-12 comes and goes, I will be reminded that His Kingdom shall never pass away. He was, He is, and He always will be. With Jesus as our Savior we shall forever be with Father God in a world without end!

Be not anxious or fear over these manmade predictions or caught up in the hype surrounding this date or any other date man may decide is going to be the end. Until scriptures are fullfilled and the harvest of the world is completed, the earth as we know it will continue with all of its joys and tribulations. When the Lord is ready, we His people will know it; for there will be silence in heaven, then the trumpet will sound, we will hear the mighty shout of an angel, and then we will be with Him in the twinkling of an eye!

When this happens it says in 1 Thessalonians 5:1 But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I should write to you. 2 For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. 3 For when they say, “Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape. 4 But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. 5 You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness

So, rather than be anxious or mystical about these dates, simply choose to believe God and His Word! Step into His Kingdom. Trust Him! Have Faith that He is and will continue to sustain you in all things. We have a lot to be thankful for and to rejoice over. My heart tells me that 12-21-12 (8th of Tevet) will be a peaceful, uneventful day for the world and, as is every day, a good day to praise and give glory to the Lord!

Rejoice, again I say REJOICE!
