One of our Board members lives in the Newtown/Sandy Hook CT area and we have been praying over Modesto and Sandy Hook for many years. A long time ago I adopted Sandy Hook as a sister city and this ministry will be praying intensely for healing, comfort and peace for all who are affected by this tragedy.
Last night as we prayed, we stood in identification repentance. We began to bear the grief and the burden of the national sin that has put our children in jeopardy. We repented for not honoring life, for turning away from righteous, for making selfish choices, for being silent when we should speak out, for seeking our own ways, not God’s ways… and the Lord gave Psalm 72:4,12-14 in response to our prayer which says: “He will bring justice to the poor of the people; He will save the children of the needy, And will break in pieces the oppressor… For He will deliver the needy when he cries, the poor also, and him who has no helper. He will spare the poor and needy,And will save the souls of the needy. He will redeem their life from oppression and violence; And precious shall be their blood in His sight.”
Only God can help us as a nation and cleanse us of violence, injustice and lawlessness. God is our answer to how to stop these outbursts of evil attacking young lives. As we cry out to Him in our abject neediness, as we acknowledging how poor we are because we have not practiced righteousness or honored His ways as we should, and that we have no helper but HIM, He will bring justice. He will turn the hearts of this nation. He will save our children. He will heal broken tortured minds. He will break in pieces the oppressor and redeem our lives from oppression and violence.
In all this we cannot blame God as some already have. There is evil at work all around us looking to devour those who are weak. We can only blame ourselves for not doing everything we can to be God’s voice of blessing, love, redemption, reconciliation, and salvation unto righteousness in the earth. Let’s take repentance seriously this time and really turn around and face Him… He is waiting for us to acknowledge Him as our only Hope and to ask for and receive His help.
As we turn to Him, He will heal our land.
