Who’s Your Daddy?

“Lay down your spiritual warfare weapons,” said the voice of the Lord I have come to know, love and obey. My response: HUH?

The apparent warfare around me and around the body of Christ screamed out in demand of increasing every spiritual warfare technique I had ever learned.  To lay down all of that felt contrary to everything I had learned from my mentors, teachers, and pastors. In six words the Voice I loved had negated every spiritual warfare seminar and conference I had attended as well as every book I read and video series I had watched. Even closer to home, it wiped out what I had taught hundreds of others. Thus, it was hard for me to receive those 6 words.

Then started the conversation with Holy Spirit.  Not sure why I persist with this habit, none-the-less, it always starts out: But, Lord….

I had a lot of “But, Lords” to state and “How can it be” questions to ask. Seemed that He already knew that and He spoke to me in His loving, soft, gentle, yet firm way, “You’re doing it all wrong.”  My answer: HUH?

No doubt, we His kids, can be quite comical to Him at times I am sure.  In this case, I am certain my astonishment must have been amusing because I heard His wonderful laughter wash over me. All I could feel was joy and peace followed by love and acceptance. What could I say to that except, “Yes, Lord”? And, because He apparently knew I was ready to hear Him on this topic, I yielded, albeit a bit begrudgingly, and turned my inner ear toward Him.

It wasn’t what I heard, but what I saw next that impacted me.  I saw a small child (couldn’t tell boy or girl) chased by the enemy (demonic beings) running toward flowing purple fabric. The child ran into the fabric and disappeared. While watching this vision, I realized the child was hiding behind the leg of a man wearing leather sandals. In moments, the child, comforted and strengthened by the encounter with the man, peeked out. The enemy was a great distance away.  The enemy could not approach the man or the child.  The man spoke over the child lovingly and kindly. After awhile the child lifted their hand and repeated the words of the man. As the words were released, power flowed and the enemy disappeared completely.

Hiding in the robe of the Father

A lesson in an intense way of intercession began that day.  Holy Spirit pointed out the child was not dressed in armor as I had pictured it. The child was not holding a sword or a shield.  The child was not shouting or yelling at the devils. The child was standing strong, at peace, full of joy and lovingly protected in the purple skirts. The child listened, learned and repeated what the man said.  And the man?  Yes, you guessed it. The Man is our Father in Heaven.  The child stood hidden in His royal robes.

After this encounter, Holy Spirit had my attention and He began to explain that much of our prayer and intercession birthed in the 1990’s, particularly what we call spiritual warfare, has gone too horizontal.  It is based more on what we do, and less on what our Father in Heaven wants to and can do.  The typical horizontal pattern is to first armor up. We put on the armor of God then we spend our time in worship.  Including worship was a marvelous step forward in the beginning, but it got tipped horizontal when the term “warshipping” was invented. Worship then became a weapon in our arsenal and too many began to do it  not so much to get close to God and honor Him, but to defeat the devil.  Next on the warfare agenda: we get going binding up devils, casting out spirits,  taking the land, cancelling curses, hexes, vexes and cutting cords that bind all from our perspective and, unfortunately, mostly in our own strength. While the prayer is always somewhat effective, as we do use the word of God, and we are His kids, we end up expending much time and energy on activities and prayers that are not needed or effective. God is not the center of our focus, the devil and his works are.

Holy Spirit summed it up for me in one question: Who’s your Daddy?

He asked me that so light-heartedly with a smiling voice.  I was exhausted, had been repenting for everything I have ever done or will do,  praying fervently to bind up the enemy attacking my household, making declarations, and still nothing had changed one iota.  When I heard that question, I answered immediately: YOU are Lord. And, then I got it.  My Daddy is bigger than the daddy of this world.  The message out of heaven: When the devil attacks don’t concentrate or give energy to him, run to Daddy,  hide in Daddy, and don’t do or say anything to the enemy until Daddy tells you what to say and do.

Even in emergencies, concentrate on what Daddy can do, not what the enemy is doing.  If we have regular intimate times of interaction with Father God, we will hear Him clearly no matter the immediacy of the crisis we are experiencing. I KNOW this to be true. A loved one collapsed, could not breath and became nonresponsive. I simply laid my hand on their chest and said “You shall live and not die. Breathe! In Jesus’ Name.” Those words were said because that is what I heard in the midst of my panic, and knowing His sweet voice, I repeated them. My loved one came to and is today whole and well.

Hidden in the royal skirts of the Father, we are always safe. We learn what His voice sounds like so we can immediately respond for the sake of ourselves and others.  That is what the great warfare chapter Ephesians 6:10-18 is really all about. It begins: Be strong in the LORD and the power of HIS might. That means no horizontal praying.  I was told by Holy Spirit to stop, lay down my spiritual warfare weapons, and that I was doing it all wrong, because I was not fully and completely dependent upon Jesus Christ, my Lord. I was leaning on a method, not on HIM.

To be strong in Him means to be fully dependent upon HIM and HIM alone.  To flow in the power of HIS might, we have to be completely emptied of our ways, let go of our methods and formulas, and do it fully and completely His way.  Our vertical relationship with the Father through Christ Jesus must be intimately established or nothing powerful will happen here in the earth.  It’s vital that worship no longer be thought of as a weapon of warfare but instead as a time of intimately and tenderly drawing close to our God who then, out of His love for us, will help us.

The armor described in Chapter 6 is telling us to hide in Christ.  We have thought of each piece mentioned as a weapon, not hiddeness in Christ. The helmet of Salvation is Jesus. The breastplate of Righteousness is Jesus. The belt of Truth is Jesus. The boots of the Gospel of Peace are Jesus. The Sword of the Spirit is Jesus’ Spirit/Word. The Shield of Faith is Jesus.  As Paul wrote it in another letter, this one to the church in Rome: But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts. Romans 13:14. That is what the armor of God is all about, “putting on the Lord Jesus Christ” so we can do things His way and not the way of our flesh. The definition of “fulfilling its lusts” is doing things the flesh wants instead of what God wants.

What I found out is defeating the devil is easy, if we do so Jesus-style. All God asks of us in Ephesian 6 is to stand in faith believing and to pray always in the Spirit.  No shouting or binding or cutting cords or breaking curses, or confrontations with principalities or rulers, certainly no wrestling with other people. Nor does He ask us to jump up and down yelling. Nope, all that He requires is that we put on Christ and then stand in faith believing, praying in the Spirit.  When we stand in full dependence upon Christ Jesus, Father God arises and the enemy is scattered.  And Praying in the Spirit means: we hear God, we repeat in faith believing what we heard (whether it is with or without understanding) and wham! No more challenge.  This is so powerful that one single word repeated by us that came directly from the mouth of the Father via Holy Spirit takes care of the entire matter no matter how scary or complex it is. Why? Because He gave the word to us and His power did it.

Now, does this mean we never get excited in prayer or exuberant regarding His amazing works? Absolutely not! When we see what He has done let the shouting begin! Let there be jumping for joy! Dance, twirl, clap, play the timbrels, sound the cymbals and trumpets! Go crazy for God! The difference here is: our energy is expended praising and thanking God not trying to defeat devils.

Reality check is that the real “warfare” is with our own selves.  Getting out of our own way and not fulling the lusts of the flesh is the hard part of intercession. The resistance, the walls, the “brass ceilings” etc are all symptoms of our battle with pride and fear and our own heart issues, such as unforgiveness.  There are no brass ceilings or walls or resistance in Christ Jesus. From the vantage point of Father God, none of that exists.  Blocking only happens in the flesh.  If we persist in doing warfare prayer horizontally, we will constantly experience the fleshy resistance within ourselves and within the region we are praying.

So,  if we want powerful effective prayer we must make a choice: Will we or will we not hide in the Father and let Him take care of our situation.  Hiding in the royal robe of the Father means we have humbled ourselves fully, given over everything, choosing to worship Him and trust Him no matter what.  This is indeed vital as the more pride and fear we have, the less we can hear Him. The less we can hear Him, the less power of His might we have. True warfare prayer always flows out of an intimate relationship with our Lord God. It is always initiated by Him!

I will repeat that because Holy Spirit says to repeat that: The more pride and fear we have, the less we can hear Him. The less we can hear Him, the less power of His might we have. True warfare prayer always flows out of an intimate relationship with our Lord God. It is always initiated by Him!

A call is being released in this hour to the children of God to lay down their ways, formulas, and methods and simply be with the Father through Christ Jesus our Lord. Out of being with the Father will flow MUCH activity. This call is not a call to sit and do nothing. It is a call to humble ourselves, come hide in His royal robes, be healed of fear and lusts of the flesh, learn to hear His voice,  and then go say and do what you see and hear!

Take a moment to ponder: Who’s your Daddy?

If He is the MOST HIGH GOD, there is nothing too hard for HIM!  Let go, run and hide in His skirts and see what He will do.

With love to all the saints!

Beloveds of the Lord,

Despite the natural circumstances of our lives, despite the apparent rise in persecution, despite the news headlines, the message I am overflowing with is hope and excitement. The Lord God is working in the earth and it is marvelous! The message I am receiving for the Remnant is Multiplication. Multiplication. Multiplication!

I recently read Chapter 6 in the book of John that describes Jesus blessing 5 barely loaves and two fish to feed some very hungry followers. They were out in the middle of nowhere with no food. A lad was the only person among 5000 men (and no doubt that many women and children with them) who had thought to bring food. He gave the fish and bread to Jesus.  Jesus blessed the bread and the fish.  He then began to break the food items into pieces. When He finished everyone had eaten their fill and His disciples gathered up 12 baskets of fragments. (John 6:1-14)

As I finished reading the story, I saw hands breaking bread over me. Over and over the hands broke bread. And, I heard the word “multiplication.”  As I heard it, I wrote the word in my Bible. For several minutes I sat quietly listening for more from the Lord God.  The room became electric with His presence. I waited and waited quietly concentrating on the Lord and His refreshing and healing presence. The encounter itself was more than enough for me! Then I began to write His message to me and I believe it is to all of us who are praying, interceding, seeking Him, learning and applying to our lives what we learn from Him.

Here is what I wrote:

A season of multiplication is upon you. Yield to My Hand breaking and dividing. I am breaking up old ways. I am dividing the good and the evil so that you can clearly see and know that which is Good. Choose Good! When you choose My Good, I will multiply it in your lives. Your minds will be overwhelmed with Good. Your hearts will overflow with Good. Goodness shall follow you. Goodness shall spring forth from you. Wherever you go, I will pour out My heart of Goodness through you. All that you set your hand to at My direction, I will multiply and prosper.

This I will do as you choose Me and My ways. Every choice toward Me shall result in multiplication. Your season of prosperity in Me has come. Not prosperity as the world sees it. No, your prosperity shall flow out of your heart and your mouth shall speak it. Overflowing of all you need to accomplish My destiny for you, to walk in My purposes and plans, shall flow.

Fear not the times you are in. Fret not over hard things you see around you. Ask Me and I will show you Myself in the midst of it all. You will prosper in intercession. Your declarations shall produce results. Your ability to believe and stand strong is multiplying. You shall hear Me clearer. You shall see in the Spirit, hear in the Spirit, and be lead of My Spirit into New Ways of doing nearly everything. Yes! Do life with Me – prospering and multiplying in all that I am and have ordained for you.

I chose you, now choose Me and I will do MORE than you can dream.

Several days later, while I was attending a prayer gathering at a local church, I saw the hands breaking bread again. The message of multiplication, an endless supply of all that was needed for the ministry of that house, came to me for the Pastor and his congregation. More than that it confirmed to me that this message is for all who are praying and interceding.

Get ready intercessors and praying church! Overflowing multiplication is upon us!

With love and joy to you always,

Rev. Cheryl

A World gone Crazy

Stormy seas

This morning I felt overwhelmed by prayer needs and the need to pray.  If you are an intercessor, or one who prays, you have probably had those days too. My heart breaks today for the Burnette Chapel Church of Christ in Antioch TN where 7 were wounded and a 39 year old woman was killed by a masked shooter.  And our eastern seaboard is projected to be pounded once again by a strong hurricane, the 3rd one, 4th if one counts the hurricane that kicked up storms while blowing itself out in the middle of the ocean. Puerto Rico lies in devastation from the same storm and Florida and Texas are still in crisis cleaning up from the previous two. And, my prayer list for personal needs, illnesses, sudden deaths in families and on and on is growing. Seems like every day I get more bad news that needs prayer.

What does a follower of Jesus do when the world has seemingly gone crazy around them? In the language of my first prayer partners who were all 80 something and I was a kid of 41, we PRESS IN.  That phrase when I first heard it back in the 1990’s made little sense to me. I was a new believer and my question at the time was “Press into what?” My mentors smiled a knowing smile and simply said “Jesus, of course.”

Brother John, tall graying black curly hair, with a wonderful base voice came over to my side. My hands completely disappear into his large knuckled chocolate brown hands… Continue reading

Beginning of a Light Yoke Era

Good news is pouring out of heaven to me today as it has for the past two days. As Yom Teruah just ended and we have begun the 10 days of Awe, ending with Yom Kippur,  Holy Spirit is leading all in the body of Christ, who will listen and yield to His promptings, into a new era. Yes, I said ERA.

This is the season of the year when our God makes changes. He ends things and begins things. Sometimes that is for the year, or the decade, or the century or all three. Today, I kept hearing from Him that a new era has begun where the body of Christ will steadily become the spotless wrinkle free bride for whom Jesus will return. She will be worry free, fear free, prejudice free, bitterness free, hate free… she will be FREE! No wrinkles of life will be left that cause her to stumble and fall. She will rise out the ashes of this life with none of the sorrows upon her. She will have finally developed eyes for Jesus only.  And, as she goes to Him He will present her with His “Light Yoke.”  This is the KEY to the new door He has opened wide. (Read Other Side of the Door). This is the KEY to the new era.

Matthew 11:28-29 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Holy Spirit also showed me today … Continue reading

Beginning of Signs

This beginning of signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory; and His disciples believed in Him. John 2:11

In a previous post the Lord spoke to my heart that He was ending some things right now, closing many doors, in preparation for a grand season of NEW.  (Read New Beginnings) This morning as I was asking the Lord what I needed to know in this season of endings and new beginnings, I felt directed to reread the first chapters of the Book of John.  As I read these favorite verses, suddenly they became as if I had never read them. The words became fresh and new, it fact alive.

In John Chapter 2 the story of Jesus turning water into wine simply overwhelmed me. It was like I was listening in on the conversation with Jesus and his Mother. I was visioning with the Lord.  In this type of vision I could see that the encounter was a tender exchange. Mary came to her son because she wanted to bless the bride and groom and the bride’s father, who was the host.  There was an intense sense that she completely trusted her son.  Also, that as His Mother, she knew him so well, and had observed Him and His capabilities for all His life, that she believed there was no one better suited than Jesus to bless the wedding and take care of the need.

His response was funny in the vision experience I was having. It was like He put his hands on his hips, cocked His head and with a grin said, “Gee Whiz Mom, I know you trust me to handle this, but I haven’t heard from my Father in Heaven on it.”  We know from scripture that He didn’t do anything unless He saw or heard it from His Father.  So, unless He did hear or see, it wasn’t going to happen. Mary knew that, because she knew Him so well. As I  continued to vision with the Lord, she smiles back at her son a knowing smile and then tells the servants to do whatever He says. After that she walks away. She appeared totally convinced He would do GOOD in this situation and would flow with blessing and provision. Continue reading

Beginning = Love One Another

potter hands

And now I plead with you, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment to you, but that which we have had from the beginning: that we love one another. This is love, that we walk according to His commandments. This is the commandment, that as you have heard from the beginning, you should walk in it. 2 John 1:5-6

In my walk with our Lord I have found over and over again that every ending means God has developed in me a greater capacity to keep His commandment to love one another as He has loved us.  (John 15:12) This increased capacity to love as He loves creates a new beginning and He opens new doors for me to walk through in order that I may demonstrate His love in fresh new ways.  The hard part of this process is always the ending of a season, especially if that season has been the center of my life. The closing of a door can be confusing if it is something I had come to rely upon or had thought I would be part of forever. It can be painful as closing doors always means I have to let go of something whether its my opinions, habits, status and position, financial, or even people. Often the new door is not clear and I have needed to let the old door close in obedience following the leading of Holy Spirit without knowing exactly where I am going or why.

In this process of beginning, for I am determined to look at each ending situation no matter how painful as an exciting new chapter in my life, Continue reading

The Beginning

The Beginning – Part 1

As I was praying and asking Holy Spirit to guide me in what to read and study the next few weeks, I heard in my heart so clearly: The Beginning. Amazingly, a moment later I opened my Bible randomly and it was to the book of John Chapter 1. The first words are “In the beginning.” That “coincidence” certainly convinced me that I had received a “God-impression!”

So, I started my study on “the beginning” with John chapter 1: “In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God.” I had written across the top a while ago; This Word is Jesus and Jesus is this Word! The chapter goes on to say: “He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness and the darkness did not comprehend it.

Those first verses got me thinking about creation and Jesus the Son of God, the light of the world. Genesis 1:1-5 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day.

Everything that was made, was made through Jesus. All good things, all things with a purpose to bless, from the very beginning of our world were created through Jesus. When light appeared it overcame the darkness,  What was void and formless it goes on to say, began to take on form and pattern. That pattern it says in John Chapter 1 was ALL reflective of Jesus, the Word incarnate, the Light of men.

So, the beauty of a flower, the intricacy of a living being, the complexity of a human being, the sweetness of a kitten,  the strength of the mountains, the loveliness of a grassy meadow, the power of rushing waters, the stunning majesty of a sunset or sunrise, the orderly pattern and design of the nature and the heavens, the spectacular variety and creativity found in our world (and so much more) are ALL a reflection of Him through Whom it was created.

Much gets blamed on God, but nothing dark, ugly, diseased, evil, deadly or malformed came from Him. That all that bad stuff entered our world when the first of humankind, Adam and Eve, opened the door for darkness to rule instead of light. These evils and banes in our world are reflective of the work of that old serpent, the devil and our human willingness to partner with his twisted and perverted plans to make God’s lovely creation hideous.

The most marvelous thought about this first day of studying “the beginning” is that even as all creation was formed through Him, Jesus knew the door to darkness would be opened and the purity and beauty of His creation would be tainted and twisted by evil. The magnificence of creation, the beginning, is that He also knew the end and all that would happen in between, including His death and resurrection. Yes, including the plan to redeem humankind and give us the opportunity to answer Him when He calls our name out of darkness into His marvelous light.  And, eventually, when the time is right, He will remake the entire earth into a place that is once again, totally reflective of Him.

Now, we have that which reflects Him in part. Soon, very soon, we will have “The Beginning of all Beginnings” when He revisits the earth as the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords.  In the mean time, my prayer is that we all learn how to be reflections of Him in the earth as much as is possible. Let us step into our personal new beginning and be His light in our world.

Peace and Joy in our Lord!
